CSS-DYK is back, with new articles starting every week on Thursday!
Every week, we will feature a new topic within CSS that will apply both inside and outside of deviantART. I will also release or feature an ambient custombox background at the end of each article. Here's this one:
Think you've got the CSS Mojo to teach others your skills? You're in luck, because are looking for writers! Send us a if you're interested.
For the best results, it is highly recommended that you compose your journals in Firefox or Internet Explorer 11+. This will allow you to enjoy the benefits of using HTML with Rich Editing Mode without having to deal with debugging later on.
Webkit-based browsers like Chrome and Safari tend to put in extra code inside (contenteditable) textareas, keeping the output cluttered and all sorts of messed up.
This is probably the #1 issue people run into when creating and using more advanced journal skins due to the fact that the HTML editor tends to be intimidating and time-consuming to use.
Let's take a simple journal with a div tag. Looks innocent, right?
That's where the similarities end. As we switch to HTML mode, however, we see two different worlds:
As we switch to the preview.. you can tell that Chrome does not like to render your journals correctly with all the random <div> tags put all over the place.
Simply put: Firefox is much better when it comes to composing journals if you are using rich editing mode! Other than that, it's up to your imagination to decide what to come up with - the possibilities with CSS is endless!
Until then, see you around later this week.
